Major Alert: A convergence of risk to mental and physical health is occurring as a range of modern technologies are implemented

In this article we will look at the different ways a range of recently introduced technology is impacting our body and mind creating a perfect storm of risk—electrical, chemical, genetic and psychological. We look at possible solutions and means to protect ourselves.

Electric Fields

You may have bought a hybrid or electric car some time during the last thirty years, happy with the understanding that they are cheaper to run and better for the environment. Quite apart from what we do with the mountain of discarded electric vehicles loaded with unusual metals and chemicals once they reach the end of their life, there is another concerning feature of these cars. 

You might have often wondered why anyone would build a home under electricity pylons? Published research has failed to verify suspected links to illness, except in the case of childhood leukaemia leading the International Agency for Research on Cancer to determine there is sufficient well established evidence to label extremely low frequency fields as “possibly carcinogenic”. The get out of jail free card for the regulators is the fact that the strength of the magnetic and electric fields generated by electricity transmission lines falls off sharply over distance according to an inverse square law. So high voltage lines rated at 220,000 volts must be at least 8.5–11 meters off the ground near housing.

Conventional cars have a 12 volt battery but electric and hybrid cars operate at 400-800 volts. A Toyota Prius for example operates at 650 volts. Sitting in the car you will be within one metre of this voltage, often less. Now do the math; the magnitude of the effect at 10 metres will be 1/(20)2 = 0.0025 of the effect at half a metre. In other words 220,000 volts at 10 metres distance will have an impact equivalent to the exposure to 550 volts on some sitting positions in a hybrid or electric car. This adds another layer to the electromagnetic smog that surrounds us generated by cell phones, wireless routers and computers concentrated in cities.

It doesn’t stop there. Dental tomography, now widely used to provide 3D images of teeth, operates immediately around your head at voltages ranging from 60,000 to 120,000 volts. If you come away after a scan with the unusual feeling that someone has been messing with your brain, you are not mistaken. The inter and intra cellular communication in the human body relies on electromagnetic fields, the full extent of the effects of the exposures from hybrid and electric cars and cell phones is not widely appreciated, but as we have seen, such fields are known to be at the very least  ‘possibly carcinogenic’ and almost certainly more. A cell phone in your back pocket is affecting your reproductive organs, in your shirt pocket it is right next to your heart. If you still want to drive a hybrid car but have become worried about exposure to high electromagnetic fields, Mazda and Toyota have produced ‘mild hybrid’ cars which only reach 48 volts. From my side I would prefer we go the other way, reduce batteries from 12 volts to just 6 volts. Biotechnology

Regular readers will be well aware of the risks to health arising through the implementation of novel biotechnologies in the medical, defence and food sectors. All life begins with the whole cell. The risks of biotechnology arise because in essence it involves devising means to penetrate the cell membrane and edit the fundamental structure and function of life in the DNA and cellular cytoplasm (the engine of the cell) upon which our entire mental and physical health depends.

These risks were highlighted last week when the journal Science published an article entitled “A Fatal Reaction—A cutting edge gene-editing trial in China went disastrously wrong. A family wants accountability.” A six year old girl died when she suffered a severe immune reaction a week after receiving an experimental spinal injection of edited viral material designed to penetrate the neurons in her brain and edit a single DNA base from a T to a C. The girl suffered from a rare single base pair mutation which causes learning difficulties. The parents paid the hospital US$860,000 to receive the treatment with informed consent forms stating that it would correct a small mistake in “Your child’s ‘DNA book’ which has caused a disease that affects growth, and may get serious later on”. In fact DNA is not in any way like a linear ‘book’, it is part of a multidimensional complex cellular system, in which genetic sequences have multiple roles. In other words, edit one base pair and you risk changing many physiological functions in unexpected ways. The immune system is designed to protect the integrity of the DNA and in this case a strong immune rejection led to the child’s death.

The problems with biotech experimentation have become obvious to informed independent observers: very high cost, low success rates, high rates of a wide range of adverse effects including mortality risk, immune rejection, and inherent mutagenesis. Along with this, is an industry with a huge PR budget to pull the wool over people’s eyes and push for government funding and deregulation. The onslaught of biotech PR is unrelenting. See for example this NZ Herald video “Biotech sector eyes global growth as calls grow for faster regulatory reform” in which Zara Champion from Biotech NZ calls for reduced regulation and increased government funding based on a raft of substantiated promises and a blind eye turned away from the risks. 

Artificial Intelligence 

A.I. is the perfect platform to sell an illusion. Propaganda and PR are not new to the world, they have helped to drive fraud and conflict for millennia, but the advent of A.I. tools has promoted the art of persuasion to new heights. A.I. connected to your TV, computer and cell phone can track where you are every minute of the day, the shops you visit, the subjects you are interested in and your conversations, including what you say about your health. It can then begin to shape your preferences and twist your ideas. This has had a significant impact on mental health, especially for the young. 

This manipulation is not just for commercial gain, it often polarises opinion and creates division. Your vote is at stake and in the wider world whose side you take in geopolitical, ideological, religious and ethnic conflicts. Rather than reading and thinking, we are being persuaded by simplistic slogans and promises that routinely bear little relation to scientific, economic, political, medical and historical fact. This is creating more instability in society. 

As a result, whole populations have been schooled to assimilate dangerous ideas and practices that make no sense. The ‘single podium of truth’ and ‘safe and effective’ mantras of the Covid reign seen across continents came from PR companies crafting phrases that sound reassuring, stick in the memory and demand compliance, but lack scientific legitimacy. These marketing strategies supported the economic interests of the biotech/pharma industrial complex  We are being taught to consume pills and products that often make health worse, whilst laying the blame for our woes on fictitious scenarios and scapegoats. 

Nanotechnology

Nanotechnology involves manipulating matter at the nanoscale, down to 1/100,000 the width of a human hair. The aim is to create new and unique materials and products. The nano scale is not just small; it is so small that even the most powerful conventional microscopes cannot see it. Thereby the technology poses unique risks and bypasses scrutiny.

A 2025 study entitled “Nanotoxicity unveiled: Evaluating exposure risks and assessing the impact of nanoparticles on human health” discussed the growing use of nanotechnology in medicine, agriculture and the environment. It emphasises that nanoparticles can induce reactive oxygen species, triggering oxidative stress, inflammation, and disturbances in cellular antioxidant defences. Nanoparticles are hard to break down so they can build up in the environment. Their toxicity and reactivity depends on factors like size, shape and surface charge. Their small size enables them to pass critical protective barriers surrounding cells and organs, including the blood brain barrier, where they can affect genetic expression. For example lipid nanoparticles were used in mRNA Covid vaccines which enabled the spike protein to affect a range of organs including the heart, liver and the brain. The comprehensive study cited above warned that there is little regulation of the sector and concluded:

“The expanding integration of nanoparticles into biological systems has raised valid concerns regarding their potential toxicity and long-term biocompatibility.”

Food Technologies

Nano particles are widely used in food packaging, clothing treatments, and foods: 

  • Nanoclays are mixed into plastics to block oxygen and moisture, in order to give items like bottled drinks a longer shelf life. Tiny clay bits and modifier chemicals can break away from the packaging and enter foods. Once ingested they are small enough to cause cellular disruption, gut imbalance, and toxic metal exposure.
  • Silver nanoparticles are embedded in packaging and clothing to kill microbes and bacteria. From there it washes down drains where it kills beneficial bacteria and harms aquatic life. 
  • Carbon nanotubes create tiny sensors which change colour when spoiled food releases gases. Inhaling thin carbon nanotubes can cause lung inflammation, scarring (fibrosis), and tissue damage that acts very much like asbestos exposure.
  • Titanium oxide particles are used in candies like M&Ms, meat substitutes and cookies to create shiny surfaces which can be coated with vibrant colours attractive to children. Research shows it is a neurotoxin and immunotoxin, and can also damage the reproductive system, cause birth defects and damage genes.

As we have reported in our article The Extraordinary Genetically Modified Invasion of Our Supermarkets by Stealth, genetically modified microorganisms (GMMs) are used extremely widely in the food processing industry without regulation or identification on labels. The risks to health are serious. GMMs are catalytic bacterial engines specifically designed to accelerate and maximise cell proliferation. They are used in batch fermentation processes to produce food ingredients. Their residual presence equates to a risk of malignant cellular growth and interference with beneficial microbial processes in our gut.

Agriculture

Nanotechnology and biotechnology have become synonymous with the concept of agricultural sustainability. They are supposed to promote plant health and growth and protect from pests and disease. However the same problems that plague food applications are cropping up in our fields and streams. These include persistent environmental contamination of soil and water systems, cellular penetration and toxicity due to their small size leading to stunted root and shoot growth, high mobility leading to unintended spread, pest and herbicide resistance leading to higher and more toxic agri-chemical use, accumulation in plant tissue and animal flesh leading to food safety concerns and destruction of helpful soil bacteria.

A Perfect Storm

There is an old proverb that describes three types of food—bronze, silver and gold. Bronze food is what we eat, this needs to be naturally sourced and free from contamination. Silver food comprises those influences we take in through the senses. These effects are long lasting and can reappear and influence our psychological emotions and responses at later times. Gold food is the most precious, this comprises the company we keep, our family interactions, friends and working environment. This should be positive and life supporting. Modern technology has invaded all types of food. In ways that are hardly visible to the senses, mind or heart. We need to bolster our faculties of discrimination to counter these effects. We should judge information, food and perception using three criteria:

Personal Experience — Scientific Logic — Long Standing Values.

For food, ask whether our grandparents used or ate it? How does it taste, what does it contain, where did it come from, has it been tested?

For ideas, think for yourself, assess sources for reliability, analyse the conclusions, use common sense. Be awake to fact and fiction.

Good company enhances life’s journey. Where is the time for the unwanted? This extends to social media, use discrimination.

These days our government, sectors of industry, health services, multinational corporations, and even foreign powers wish to control our choices. A band of thieves may be very strong, but the raised voice of a watchman can deter their advance and frustrate their intentions. The same is true of those who continue to promote technologies that pose risks to human health, peace and well being. They may possess power and authority, but if alert and discriminating people persist in raising their voices, their success becomes difficult. Modern technology is threatening the stability of life as we have known it. If we do not raise our voice we can be overwhelmed.
